This volume presents the Late Antique Egyptian textiles held in the Collection of Classical and Near Eastern Antiquities in the National Museum of Denmark. It is the first comprehensive publication of these textiles, which constitute the richest ensemble in Denmark. Leading specialists have conducted detailed studies on the collection, demonstrating its diversity in terms of weaving techniques and raw materials, the variety of object types and a rich iconography. The history of this collection is also an important example of how European museums acquired textiles from Egypt during the 19th and 20th centuries. New connections are revealed between textiles from various collections, particularly those in the National Museum of Denmark and the National Museum of Norway. Consequently, this publication also includes studies of some of the Egyptian textiles held in Oslo, providing a broader Scandinavian context.
