Rusty Allen returns home after two tours in Iraq. He is unable to find steady work and is plagued with PTSD. He works with a therapist on the PTSD issues and takes medication to help him through.
After several episodes of waking his mother and sister with his nightmares and screams, he packs his bags and heads to the Blue Ridge Mountains of South Carolina to his grandfather's cabin to find some peace. Not one night passes before a narcissistic police officer Martin Emory III shows up at his door accusing him of kidnapping.
Emory unable to find anything which connects Allen to the kidnapping has to swallow his pride and ask for Allen's help as a tracker to find the missing woman. To other officers accompany them.
While searching, Allen does his best to conceal his PTSD issues. The two officers Davis and Denton, recognized the symptoms, but held their thoughts to themselves. Then came the night when Allen woke them all with his screams. As they sat by the fire drinking coffee he apologized and told them his story. Only Emory was not impressed.
They found the missing Allison James. She was dehydrated and ill. Denton and Davis made their way down the mountain to call for a rescue squad to come and assist. Rusty spent the time nursing the young woman while Emory sat off by himself brooding.
Benny Grimes who had kidnapped Ally James in the first place watched from the cover of the woods around them. He just wanted Ally to share his life in a little valley higher up in the mountains. He had loved her since high school and wanted her to be his forever.
Allison survived the night and day until the rescue squad arrived with Davis and Denton. Then they made the trip down the mountain. Emory offered no help and was disappointed when there were no members of the media to greet them.
As Allison recovered in the hospital, Emory was able to learn she had been kidnapped by Benny Grimes. He also resented the budding relationship developing between Allison and Rusty. He should have been the one to get the girl. One more thing in his book to hold against Allen.
They cannot find Benny and apparently he's sold both his home, business, and emptied his bank account. When he exhausts all leads he again turns to Allen to lead them up the mountain looking for Grimes who is a known mountain man.
While Rusty agrees, he convinces Ally to stay with his mother and sister, so he doesn't have to worry about her being taken again while he is tracking Benny. They pack Ally and their rescue dog, Moose up and take them to meet his family.
Benny has been busy creating tracks and backtracking so he can snatch Ally while they are wasting time looking for him. He is thwarted in his attempt on Ally because she is nowhere to be
