Being a parent is one of the most rewarding but equally challenging opportunities you encounter in your lifetime. You quickly realize and have compassion and empathy for your own parents that it isn't as easy as it sounds to raise children and teach them what it takes to become an adult. Being a mother of a house full of boys I personally have learned so much, mainly by trial and error but nonetheless learned. Each child has their own nuances, ways to be loved, ways they learn and ways they behave...sometimes it is hard to believe siblings could be so very different. Writing children's books has always been a dream of mine, almost therapeutic to think of the chapters in my head before putting them on paper. Why dream at all if you don't venture out to pursue it? 'P' is for Picky is my first published book written about my oldest son, Daniel, who has struggled with food since a very young age. What we realized is he wasn't being stubborn about trying new things he was legitimately afraid to try anything new, he has a certain list of foods he will eat and it ends there. The idea behind the book was to bring awareness to the issue, add a little humor to it so he didn't feel ashamed and to add a personal life lesson from my childhood so he didn't feel alone in the issue. Challenges and fears children face don't always present themselves the same, in fact each child handles it quite different and recognizing that as a parent and helping mentor and guide them helps overcome the issues all the while instilling confidence.
